MW4 October 24 Patch: DMZ Squad MIA Bug Fixed, Exfil Heli Stops Vanishing, Hijack Spawns Improved

Infinity Ward released its second Modern Warfare 4 update in two days on October 24. It's a cleanup patch, but the fixes matter. The official patch notes say DMZ party leaders can no longer yank teammates out of a match and get their Active Duty Operators marked MIA. The Exfil helicopter should also stop disappearing with players still on board. Multiplayer gets better Hijack spawns and a Search and Destroy exploit fix. Game Rant lists the update as version 1.111.000.

This follows the day-one update from October 23. That patch pulled the early Apex Attachments and said weapon tuning was being looked at "for next week." The new notes don't include any weapon balance changes, so that pass is still to come.

DMZ: no more surprise MIA operators

For DMZ players, the most important fix is about squad control. Before this patch, a party leader could pull teammates out of DMZ without asking. Those players' Active Duty Operators were then flagged as MIA, so a squadmate's decision could cost you an operator. Infinity Ward says that's now fixed.

Other DMZ fixes in the update:

  • Exfil helicopter: it could vanish while players were still inside. Fixed.
  • Hajin rocks: even more spots where players got stuck in rocks have been patched.
  • FOB: an out-of-bounds issue has been closed.
  • Shopping Mission: AI reinforcements were spawning too often and have been toned down.
  • Gunsmith: applying some camos or reticles in DMZ Gunsmith could take DMZ cash. That's fixed.
  • Dark Zone Story Mission: objective markers could point at the wrong enemy during the Obtain Code steps.
  • Wrong data on looted Dog Tags and Bounties, plus "various exploits" closed.

Multiplayer: Hijack spawns and an S&D exploit

On the Multiplayer side, Infinity Ward has improved spawn locations and respawn timing in Hijack. Hijack is one of MW4's new launch modes, where teams fight over a Data Spike. PCGamesN points out that this is one of several competitive fixes in the patch. The others:

  • Search and Destroy: players could defuse the bomb "from an unintended distance or position." That's patched.
  • Rooftops: the Deathstalker Killstreak could fly outside the map boundaries.
  • Hardcore: the Portable Radar Field Upgrade now shows the minimap while active.
  • Collateral: Favorite Operators weren't being equipped properly.

The patch also fixes a PC bug that hid the Split keybind for inventory stacks, menus closing unexpectedly, and the M4 muzzle visual bug.

Switch 2 download size

Game Rant reports that, based on several user reports, Switch 2 players got a download of about 39GB. The game's install size reportedly reached around 91.3GB afterwards. Activision hasn't published official sizes for each platform.

Known issues still open

Infinity Ward lists three problems it's still working on:

  • The regional map animation shown while searching for a lobby has been turned off for now as a possible fix for hitching.
  • Some players are being kicked while spectating in Multiplayer.
  • On PC, extracting from DMZ with a looted Dog Tag can cause a network error.

What's next

Weapon tuning is the next big thing to watch, since Infinity Ward has already said it's looking at changes. According to our MW4 roadmap breakdown, Shipment arrives on October 27 and Season 1 for MW4 and Warzone starts on November 6. Infected and the new Possession mode were also promised in the pre-launch notes as a Halloween treat.
