MW4 Day-One Update: Apex Attachments Pulled for Now, Weapon Tuning Being Eyed for Next Week
Modern Warfare 4 has been out for a day, and Infinity Ward is already patching. The studio updated its official MW4 launch patch notes on October 23 with a new day-one section. Two things stand out. The early event Apex Attachments from the Beta have been pulled for now, and the team says it is "already looking at potential weapon tuning for next week." If you're just jumping in, our MW4 is live worldwide recap covers the launch itself.
Where did the Apex Attachments go?
Infinity Ward answers that question directly in the notes: "Where did they go?" During the Beta, the studio included a few early seasonal event Apex Attachments and weapon attachments. It says they were there to check that the attachments were fun, balanced and performed as intended. They aren't in the launch build, but the patch notes promise: "Don't worry! They will return soon." No return date is given yet.
Weapon tuning could land next week
Infinity Ward hasn't changed any weapon numbers in this update. It says it's "looking closely at weapon performance" and points out that MW4 has bespoke weapon tuning for Multiplayer and DMZ. That means a gun can be balanced differently in each mode. Any balance pass "for next week" could therefore hit the two modes differently. The studio also says more updates are coming "over the coming days", including upcoming Multiplayer Patch Notes.
The pre-launch notes from earlier in the week covered the bigger launch balance changes: SMG buffs, Blood Rush and UAV health. They're broken down in our MW4 launch patch notes post.
Biggest fixes in the day-one update
According to the patch notes, the update fixes:
- Prestige locks: Military Camos and Apex Attachments could appear locked again after Prestiging a weapon.
- Camo requirements: several camo unlock requirements were shown inaccurately.
- Wrong DMZ challenge: a DMZ Challenge listed Longshot kills instead of Headshot kills.
- Killstreak carry-over: Killstreak indicators from a previous Multiplayer match could carry into DMZ.
- Portable Radar: the Field Upgrade didn't work in Free-for-All.
- Deathstalker on Summit: invisible collisions could block calling it in near the Barracks.
- Stability: several crash fixes across all modes.
The UI note also says Weapon Prestige and Player Prestige can't be used while you're searching for a match, and the menu now says so.
DMZ gets its own list
DMZ gets a long set of fixes of its own. They cover disconnects, Lieutenant intel not updating tracked Orders, inconsistent FOB Upgrade and Bounty tracking, and players getting stuck in rocks on Hajin. One gear change matters right away. Disposable Parachutes now have three uses, and Gas Masks, including Durable ones, no longer break the moment you enter radiation zones. Infinity Ward is still investigating AI cars in DMZ moving without drivers or getting stuck. The notes also list two recent additions: Free-for-All now allows parties of up to 4, and DMZ players can steal back UAV Towers from enemy control.
