Modern Warfare 4 Multiplayer: Kill Block, Gunny, Apex Attachments and Everything Confirmed
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Infinity Ward has already laid out the core multiplayer changes in the official reveal. Here's what's confirmed.
Gunplay: "Ballistic Authority" and no bloom
MW4 introduces a new weapon tech stack that Infinity Ward calls Ballistic Authority. The headline changes:
- Bloom has been removed. Hipfire shots go where the weapon is pointed.
- Recoil, convergence and weapon handling have been rebuilt to reflect player input more directly.
- Depth of field and visual effects have been refined to make enemies easier to see.
Movement
There are expanded options for mantling, climbing, hanging and jumping, built to let you reposition, flank and handle vertical spaces. Transitions between traversal, movement and gunplay are designed to keep your momentum.
Maps and modes
- 12 Core maps at launch, each with its own custom infil
- Kill Block: set in the Westbridge Training Facility, it reconfigures between rounds from modular sections, with more than 500 possible layouts. It supports 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight formats, with more modes planned.
- Dedicated Gunfight maps
- Big War maps for large-scale vehicle and infantry combat
Loadouts: Create-a-Class, Gunsmith and Gunny
- A redesigned Create-a-Class puts Operators, weapons, Equipment and Killstreaks into a single loadout.
- Gunsmith returns. Attachments are now shared by weapon class.
- Gunny is new: it builds a close-, mid- or long-range weapon from your unlocked attachments, using configurations from Infinity Ward's Weapons Team.
Apex Attachments and Prestige
Apex Attachments unlock when you fully level a weapon. They can change its handling, firing behavior, tactical utility, stealth or combat role.
There are also two Prestige paths:
- Classic Prestige: relocks Create-a-Class progression in exchange for higher XP rates and exclusive rewards.
- Regular Prestige: restarts you at Level 1 but keeps your unlocked loadouts, with its own rewards.
DMZ returns
DMZ, Call of Duty's extraction mode, is back. You play as an off-the-books asset behind enemy lines, with changing weather and dynamic objectives. You can go in solo or with a squad.
Warzone and last-gen consoles
Starting with Season 1, Call of Duty: Warzone will integrate Modern Warfare 4 content and progression. As part of that change, Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One stops being playable once Season 1 begins.
PC features
The PC version is developed with Beenox. Confirmed features include DLSS 4.5 support, multiple upscaling and frame generation options, expanded real-time ray tracing, and competitive settings that prioritize high frame rates.
