MW4 DMZ Early Access Starts October 20: Three Days Early for Digital Pre-Orders

DMZ players won't have to wait for launch day. On October 9, Infinity Ward confirmed that Modern Warfare 4's DMZ Early Access begins Tuesday, October 20. That's three full days before the game's October 23 release. The news arrived in the second DMZ Deep Dive, the FOB Intel Guide, and in a studio post on X that Dexerto quoted: "DMZ Early Access begins October 20."

Who gets in early

According to the official intel post, Early Access is for players who have digitally pre-purchased Modern Warfare 4. It unlocks "all of DMZ", not a limited slice or a time-boxed test. On Battle.net, the post names the Standard Digital Edition and the Vault Edition as qualifying. Dexerto reports that any digital edition counts, whatever your platform.

  • Who: digital pre-order owners
  • What: full access to DMZ
  • When: Tuesday, October 20, 2026 (start time not announced yet)

Physical-disc pre-orders aren't mentioned, so if you want the head start, the digital route is the safe bet.

How it fits the Early Access timeline

DMZ is the second Early Access window. The Campaign opens first on Friday, October 16 for the same digital pre-order owners. DMZ follows four days later, and the full game, including multiplayer, launches on October 23 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2, per the official announcement.

Activision's fine print warns that start dates "differ" between the two modes and could be affected by outages and time zones. Plan around the dates, but don't set your alarm for a specific hour until Infinity Ward posts one.

Why three extra days matter in DMZ

DMZ is Call of Duty's extraction shooter. You drop in, fight AI and rival Operators, loot, craft and then try to make the exfil with your gains. Progression persists between runs, so an early start is a real advantage, not just bragging rights. Early players can:

  • Learn the Hajin map before the launch-day rush
  • Start upgrading the Forward Operating Base (FOB)
  • Bank cash and gear ahead of everyone else
  • Get familiar with the new Bounty and Wanted system before the leaderboards fill up

Dexerto also notes that pre-orders include the Hunter Killer Operator skin and the Inner Circle M4 Blueprint.

What's next

  • Oct 16: Campaign Early Access (digital pre-orders)
  • Oct 20: DMZ Early Access (digital pre-orders)
  • Oct 23: Modern Warfare 4 full launch
  • Shortly after launch: Season 1, when Warzone integrates MW4 content, per Activision

Infinity Ward hasn't announced exact unlock times for either Early Access window yet. We'll update EarlyLoot as soon as they go public.
